It was a vibrant and busy open day with lots of exciting stalls selling crafts, sweets and homemade baking. The items being sold were made by the fantastic children and childcare staff in the run up to the open day, and it was brilliant to show off their hard work to Penicuik residents and visitors.
Another exciting feature of our open day was seeing our brand new community café in full swing. The café is a trial project funded by the Midlothian Food & Health Alliance small grant scheme with support from Midlothian council and it will usually runs on Tuesday Mornings. The café offers refreshments and special offers on soft play in a lovely friendly environment. We hope the café will be as popular as it was on our open day!
Penicuik YMCA-YWCA also welcomed lots of special guests to our open day, including the fire brigade and none other than Mickey Mouse! With story-telling in a tipi tent, a raffle, face-painting and even stone decorating, there really was something for everyone and our thanks go out to all those who made the day so successful.
This year’s open day was extra special as we celebrated the first anniversary of our PlusOne mentoring service (this is where the cake came in!). Offering mentoring services to young people across Midlohian, PlusOne provides a much needed service and has achieved a great deal in the year it has been running. To find out more about PlusOne and the volunteering opportunities available, see our volunteering section.
Penicuik YMCA-YWCA is a great facility, and we were delighted to be able to show off some of what we do here at a ‘The Y’ at our annual open day. We also raised just under £800 which was quite simply, the cherry on the cake! Thank you to everyone who came along, and to those who made the day possible. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
